Sitka
Log Homes won the bid to build the 45,000 square foot day lodge
(Earl’s Lodge) at Snowbasin Resort, located near the finish line for
the men’s downhill and other 2002 Winter Olympic alpine ski
races.
Sitka Log Homes also built two smaller log lodges
further up the mountain. Much of the log work you see in these lodges
is built around steel framing.
This is another example of log accent/log detail work or of a hybrid
log lodge. Spruce log columns of
40 inches in diameter support
50 foot wide log trusses built with 24 inch
diameter spruce logs, while a grid work of large diameter logs are
featured in reflective ceilings throughout the structure.
The oversize spruce logs were harvested locally
in our northern BC forests and were dead
standing timber so no live trees had to be harvested.
The owners of Snowbasin Resort were very impressed with the quality
of workmanship and materials used in Earl's Lodge,
so they also selected Sitka Log Homes to provide the log work and
installation for two other lodges -Needles
Lodge and John Paul Lodge.
